In his recent works, Jan Tichý has focused on painting his impressions of the landscape, in particular his native Elbe region and the surroundings of the town of VelkýOsek, where he has a studio. Tichý transforms the landscape into individual symbols or structures that contrast sharply with the usually monochrome background. He aims for maximum compositional balance and a purity of form and colour, and combines a meticulous use of glaze and multiple layers of paint with cutting and scratching. The resulting works possess a highly authentic atmosphere.
