Luděk Filipský (born 1945) studied under Prof. Jan Smetana at the Prague Academy of Fine Arts. He lives and works in Kutná Hora. In his paintings, drawings and sculptures, he systematically explores the fundamental ‘building-block’ phenomena of light, colour and space, fusing them into dynamic structures through which he symbolically reflects on nature, the cosmos and humanity’s spiritual transcendence. Filipský’s exhibition at GASK is conceived in close connection with the Church of St Barbara in Kutná Hora, whose lofty vaulted construction and interior illuminated by light streaming through stained-glass windows has provided him with an enduring source of inspiration as well as a parallel to his own artistic contemplation.
